How To Choose The Right Hairstyle

As you’re getting ready for a summer haircut, it’s important to take a few things into consideration. Several key factors will play into the decision-making process, so keep them in mind before you head to the barbershop.

Face Shape

Your face shape, or head shape in some cases, have a huge impact on how a hairstyle will suit your appearance.

Men's Face Shape

Image via manofmany

  • Oval – The length of the face is greater than the width of the cheekbones. The forehead is larger than the jawline. The jaw is rounded rather than angular.

  • Square – A square face has similar measurements all around. The jawline is sharper than the round face jawline.

  • Triangle – The cheekbones measure larger than the forehead and the jawline measures larger than the cheekbones.

  • Heart – The forehead is the largest portion of the face, and the chin is pointed.

  • Rectangle – The length of the face is the longest measurement. The other measurements are similar in size: cheekbones, forehead, and jawline.

  • Diamond – The face length is the largest and the jawline is the smallest feature. The chin is pointed.

  • Round – The length of the face is as similar to that of the width of the cheekbones. The forehead and jawline have similar measurements to each other but are smaller than the face length or cheekbones. The jawline is soft and rounded.

How To Figure Out Your Face Shape

There are two basic ways to figure the shape of your face.

In The Mirror

For the easier, but less precise determination, use some glass chalk or a dry erase marker in the bathroom mirror.

Get your hair away from the edges of your face – if it’s long enough, toss it into a ponytail, or, if it’s too short for that, use some hair product to slick it back, or borrow some of your girlfriend’s bobby pins. We won’t tell.

Mens hairstyles

Once you’ve gotten your hair out of the way, take the marker or chalk and trace the outer edges of your face in the mirror. Whatever approximate shape you have on the mirror is your face shape.

Compare to the descriptions of shape faces above, if you’re not totally sure which shape is yours.

With A Measuring Tape

If you’ve got a measuring tape handy, you can get actual measurements and determine your face shape that way. It’s recommended that you measure in front of a mirror to visually be sure you’re hitting the widest points on each section that you’re measuring.

You’ll also need a flexible measuring tape, like a seamstress’ measuring tape, rather than a construction tape. Don’t forget a paper and pen to jot down measurements for reference.

Measure Your Cheeks

To measure your cheekbones, start and end at the pointiest parts of your cheeks at approximately the outer edge of your eye sockets. You’ll draw the measuring tape from one corner to the other, across the nose.

Measuring Your Forehead

Measuring from approximately one temple to the other, you’ll measure your forehead at its widest point. The widest point is typically just above the eyebrows or half-way between the eyebrows and the hairline.

Measure Face using Measuring Tape

Measuring Your Jawline

Instead of measuring around the edge of your jawline, you’ll measure from the corner of your jaw that starts below your ear. Measure along this line, away from the ear, towards the chin. Bring the tape to the tip of your chin on that side only.

Next, repeat this measurement on the other side of your face, from the corner of the jaw to the tip of your chin. Add the two figures together for your jawline measurement.

Measuring Your Face Length

Normal Hairline and Non-Prominent Nose

If you do not have a receding hairline and non-prominent nose, simply draw the measuring tape downward from your hairline to the tip of your chin. This is your face length.

Notes for Those with Receding Hairlines or Prominent Noses

For those with a receding hairline, estimate where your hairline would be and measure down to the tip of your chin from that point. For those with a prominent nose, don’t follow the contours of your face, but rather hold the measuring tape out slightly from your face and measure that way.

Determining Your Face Shape

Mens hairstyles

Once you’ve completed measuring or tracing your face on the mirror, you can look at the information above to determine which face shape you have. Keep this information handy for helping you decide which hairstyles may be the most flattering.

Personality

Of course, one of the key factors in choosing a hairstyle is your personal sense of style and personality. Someone highly disciplined, for example, is less likely to want a shaggy, unkempt sort of haircut like Jesse Spencer sported on House as Doctor Chase.

Before you start looking through specific style options, think about your personality, and interests, and look for images of actors and models that seem to reflect a similar personality to your own.

Lifestyle

Of course, even if you’re a chill dude who’d rather go long and curly, you may have some lifestyle restrictions that will determine the style of haircut you’ll need to get.

Think through your workplace and any appearance restrictions they may have. Also consider your prominent activities – are you excessively active, spend a lot of time in the water during the summer, play in a band, spend a lot of time outdoors, live in cold or hot weather climates, or a host of other factors.

Outdoorsy Types

If you’re outside a lot, you’ll want to go with a low-maintenance style that’s easy to wash and go, and not mess with things like pomades and blow-dryers. Shag cuts, buzzcuts, and tapers are perfect for anyone outdoors a lot.

Outdoorsy Types

Athletic Types

Generally speaking, athletes should also focus on low-maintenance haircuts for similar reasons as the outdoorsman. Specifically, buzzcuts are great for anybody who wears a helmet, since they won’t leave you with helmet head.

Creative Types

If you’re an artist of some kind, you have the freedom to go as extreme as you like, generally speaking, unless you work in an uptight office environment. If you’ve got the freedom to go wild, why not do so? Let your personality shine through any style that gets your imagination going.

Business Types

Professional fields are starting to open up to more interesting hairstyles for men and women, but they’re unfortunately still pretty limited in most office environments. Because of that, you should look more for neutral hairstyles, whether that’s a buzzcut, taper, crewcut, or slicked back side part.

World Traveler Types

If you travel a lot, whether for business or pleasure, you’ll want something that’s going to look great without a lot of hassle. Nobody wants to travel with tons of product.

World Traveler

Shoot for something like a medium layer cut off the ear. This is a slick look without a ton of maintenance, that you can fix quickly after a flight, even before you leave the airport bathroom.

Hair Types

The final, and possibly most important factor in choosing a haircut, is your hair type.

There are a ton of hair types, but we’re talking specifically about curly, wavy, or straight hair. You can go more in-depth to determine all of your type needs, too, though, and that may help determine the types of products you should or should not use.

Figure out your hair type, then hit those style books.

  • Straight hair – This hair type has absolutely no curl or wave.

  • Wavy hair – This hair type has just a hint of curves and curls, without distinct curls.

  • Curly hair – This hair type has quite a bit of curl to it and can keep a curl without any type of styling.

  • Coily hair – This hair type has tight kinks or curls that spring back to the curl when stretched out and released.

Crewcut

Crewcut

For months, you’ve worked hard to achieve that toned body. Why not show off that body you’ve worked so hard to achieve by wearing a fitted shirt?

Since it will be warm and sunny, you need to choose clothing that will help you stay and look cool. Cotton shirts are an excellent choice for the warm weather. Opt for light colors such as white, cream, and gray. Light colors are ideal during the summer since they absorb less heat.

Choose a shirt that fits you well. You want a shirt that will show off your muscles, but not too tight that you’ll feel uncomfortable. Look for a tee that with a slim body that simply looks tailored.

Linen shirt

Lightweight fabrics like linen are one of the best options for men’s summer outfits. It is great at absorbing sweat. Plus, the weave of the fabric allows for more airflow.

What’s great about the linen shirts is that they work well in both casual and formal environments. That means, you can wear them for work or for you play. The problem is that this summer staple doesn’t necessarily appeal to younger men. You don’t want to dress like your dad. With the right style, you can give the linen shirt a young guy spin.

When shopping for linen shirts, seek out more edgy lively versions of the breezy basic. Also, look for the ones with a trim cut through the body. This will take about 10 years off of the shirt alone. With the right styling, linen shirts will help you survive the weather and still look the part.

The warm weather means an explosion of colors for men. Don’t be afraid to wear bright-colored shirts. In fact, we’ve seen a lot of men dipping their toes in the pastel waters. Pink, for instance, has been one of the most popular colors last season. For decades, we’ve been told that pink is a color that is reserved for women. Today, however, more and more are becoming more adventurous with sense of style. Pink is now seen as a color for both men and women.

A pastel pink oxford shirt would make a great addition to your wardrobe. But if you’re not too keen on wearing pink, opt for the all-time color of the season, blue. Enhance your looks by adding a pop of color to men’s summer outfits.

Make sure that your polo shirt fits well. This will show off your smart casual side, without looking like you’re trying too hard. With this shirt, you can stay cool without dropping your style game.

If you want a more casual look, pair it with shorts and oxford shoes. This will help you keep cool during the dog days of summer while still looking stylish. A hat is going to add a cool guy look.

The ripped jeans style has never gone out of style. It can add a hint of modern day grunge to your outfit. Rock your ripped denim with a plain or printed tee. Because why not? Shirts and ripped denim are made for each other. For a more casual and relaxed look, finish off with a pair of sneakers. Alternatively, suede moccasins will also look great with the ripped jeans and shirt combination.

Prepare to plunge into the entire spectrum of denim washes this summer. Wear lighter ones during the day and the darker versions at night.

There is nothing more unflattering and uncomfortable than wearing clothes that don’t fit your body perfectly. Often, men assume that dressing for their body type is only for women. But the truth is your body shape and type is the most important thing to consider when choosing your outfit.

Most men fall into one of the 5 body shapes – oval, triangle, inverted triangle, rectangle, and trapezoid. Determining your body type will help you find clothing that works well with you and dress in a way that best suits your physique. Plus, it helps you determine which pieces of clothing you need to stay away from.

Whether you’re rocking the “dad bod” or you’ve got the perfect body shape, learning how to dress for your body type isn’t as tricky as most people think. This blog post is going to teach you how to dress for your body type. Use this as a guide to determine which type of clothes would flatter you.

Oval

If you have an oval body type, it means the majority of your mass is concentrated at the center of your body. You’re obviously someone who enjoys eating sweets or drinking alcohol. Sometimes, men with oval body have thinner legs, which create a disproportionate shape. Your goal is to create the illusion of height and choose pieces that elongate your form.

Shirts

For broad men, the key to dressing well is to find a shirt that fits you perfectly. Avoid wearing shirts that are too small or too big for you as it may add even more bulk.

Stick with simple clothing. Clothes in dark, solid colors are your best bet. The goal is to get people’s attention off of your body and focused on your face. As such, we suggest that you avoid shirts or polo with bold patterns as they can draw attention to your midsection. Tight fitting tops are also a bad choice. Shirts with vertical stripes or pinstripes are ideal for you since they can lengthen your torso.

Pants

Pants should always be worn at the natural waist. Also, wear pants that are comfortably loose. While it is okay to wear a belt, make sure that it is not too tight. This may cause the pants to wrinkle or pinch. It may also cause the bottom of your tummy to be squeezed upward and sag down in front of the belt.

Triangle

Men with triangular body type have wider hips and waist than their chest and shoulders. The emphasis is towards the belly area. To dress better, the idea is to draw the attention towards your shoulders and away from your waist.

Shirts and tops

Button-down and single-breasted styles will help streamline your torso and emphasize your shoulders. Also, opt for structured tailored jackets and blazers. They will make your midsection look slimmer. Avoid narrow crew-necks and polo necks because they decrease shoulder width.

While shirts with horizontal stripes can do a great job of making you look thinner, it doesn’t work well on men with a triangle body type. This is because it can draw attention to the stomach area. Any kind of outerwear with details will also put focus on your stomach. As such, we suggest that you steer clear of it. Rather, wear clothing in dark colors and simple patterns.

Pants

Choose pants with a slight flare. This will bring balance to the bottom half of your body. Avoid wearing skinny jeans as it will emphasize your waist and midsection.

Inverted Triangle

Men with an inverted triangle body shape usually have broad shoulders, muscular arms and a narrow, defined waist. Most athletes fall under this category.  You’re obviously someone who likes training your chest, back, and shoulders. Most people tend to confuse inverted triangle with that of trapezoid body type, but this has more extreme proportions.

With this type of body, you may find it easier to dress up as compared to others. But in order to look your best, you need to focus on balancing proportions.

Shirts and tops

Most men with slimmer figure don’t have trouble finding a shirt that fits them perfectly. However, broader men tend to have more problems finding one that could accommodate their brawnier arms, chest and upper body. Our advice? Get shirts that are labelled as “slim fit” and opt for one that is one size larger than the one you would normally buy.

V-neck shirts are also a great choice for men with broad chest and shoulders. It creates a natural visual line that draws eyes to your trim waistline and narrows your chest.

Pants

Since you have a nice body, you probably like wearing tight clothing. However, wearing skinny jeans will only make your upper body appear even wider. The goal is to balance out your proportions, so we suggest that you try straight or more relaxed trousers.

Rectangle

Men with a thin and tall frame fall under rectangle body shapes. Typically, their shoulders have the same width as their hips and waist.  Since their upper body is thin and long, the goal is to expand the dimension of their otherwise slim frame.

Shirts and tops

Wear tops with pops of brighter color or horizontal stripes to widen the shoulders a bit and create an illusion of structure. You may also want to opt for a layered look to add instant bulk to your body frame. Try wearing a vest or a cardigan over a crisp white t-shirt to add width to your slim frame.

Pants

With a square body type, the idea is to choose pieces of clothing that will prevent you from looking too thin. In this case, we recommend that you choose straight-legged or relaxed fit pants.

Trapezoid

If you have a muscular body with broad shoulders, slim waist and lean legs, then you have a trapezoid body type. You won’t have a hard time finding clothing that would flatter your body. After all, you already have a nice body.

Shirts and tops

Since there is a natural visual balance between your upper body and your waist, you have the freedom to wear prints. You can wear horizontal or vertical strips without messing up your visual proportions too much. What’s great about having this body type is that you can wear something slightly skinny or slightly oversized.

Pants

Since your legs are not super slim, you have the option to wear slimmer fit pants or straight legs. Just be sure to avoid the extremes like tight-fitting or baggy pants.

Bold prints are everywhere this season. Shirts, shorts, shoes and even coats are getting the bold print treatment. From the more classic stripes and checks to the louder prints like Aztec, animal print and florals, they are all leaving a mark on your favorite men’s fashion pieces.

Fashion is all about personal expression. Today, more and more men are looking to explore the world of bold prints and trying to keep up with the trend. In fact, many of them are considering the look. But given that these prints can look big, bold and scary, they end up intimidated.

If you think bold prints aren’t for you, think again. It’s time for you to open your world a little wider to fashion and style and do away with the black and grays that have been dominating your wardrobe during the winter months.

Use these tips to help you pull off bold prints this spring.

Don’t be afraid of prints

Prints work for both relaxed and amped up situations. It can work even on the most casual of days. You have the option to wear a graphic tee, printed chinos, dress shirt, or even Bermuda shorts. But when wearing prints, whether it be Aztec, polka dots or floral prints, you want to tone it down with a basic pair of jeans and shoes. Use neutral colors to balance out a loud combination.

Dark trousers will also look great when paired with a bright patterned shirt. If you find floral prints a big feminine, you can toughen it up by pairing a floral shirt with more masculine accessories like a blazer or jeans. You may also wear a neutral-patterned jacket to combat those April showers.

Don’t be afraid to play around with patterns and colors. Try out a few patterns to see which one will suit the location and occasion. Have fun working on your individual style.

Smart casual

Most people are under the impression that print shirts are meant for casual attires. Oftentimes, people see it as a holiday shirt or those worn by middle-aged men. Sure, they may look a lot more casual as compared to their dress shirt counterparts, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t be worn stylishly.

Floral prints, for instance, can look sophisticated, provided that you only have one item of clothing featuring this pattern. It could be a floral shirt or a jacket. Match it up with solid colored pieces like a basic pair of trousers. You want it to look pulled together and not too busy.

If you decide to wear a patterned blazer, be sure to wear a white shirt underneath to tone it down a bit. If you try to pull off mixed prints, there’s a good chance that the colors will clash and you may end up looking like a walking street light or a clown.

Suit up

Imagine a jacket and trousers that bear the same print. That’s a sure head turner. We know it’s a bold start, but if you really want to look cutting edge, you might as well head into it full on. Keep in mind, though, that everything should be done in moderation.

If you find that you absolutely love printed suits, we recommend that you pair it with a solid colored shirt of a completely different color. This will help balance out the busyness and loudness of the suit. Neutral colors are your best option. Do this and you’ll become the most well dressed man you want to be.

Accessorize

Bold print makes for a great statement piece. If you are looking to add a little flare to your outfit but find it a bit intimidating, accessories would be a great place to start. Ties, watches, belts, caps, socks, shoes or other accessories that feature paisley or floral prints may be what you need to make an impact. This is especially recommended if you’re just starting to dip your toes into the patterned end of the pool.

If you’re a smart dresser, you may want to start by pairing a white shirt with a patterned tie. White shirt is like a blank canvas, so you can use whatever tie you like and it will undoubtedly look good.

Introduce pattern into your wardrobe slowly, especially if you are new to wearing print. Just start small to see how it feels for you. When you feel confident enough to move towards a bolder wardrobe, then go ahead and invest in printed shirts, pants, shorts and other pieces of clothing.

Final thoughts

Bold prints make for some much needed color and vibrancy into minimal or neutral outfits. When done right, you’ll be able to stand out in the crowd. But wearing prints will only work for you if you feel confident with what you’re wearing.

Awkwardness is extremely difficult to hide. Any kind of second guessing will make you look comfortable. When wearing bold prints, the key is to wear it with a great deal of confidence. Remember, it’s how you carry your clothes that make the biggest impact.

Technological advances are continually helping us accomplish our goals. It’s hard to find an industry where this is truer than in the fitness world. It’s never been easier to monitor your heart rate or calories lost. You can track progress over weeks and months or discover new workouts. These individual technologies may change how we control or set up our workout routines. But they aren’t everything. The access technology as a whole, i.e., the internet & social media, is completely re-shaping how and why we work out in two major ways. Let’s take a look!

Community

Finding motivation and a sense of belonging are huge benefits of working out in groups or with a class. Technology is making these communities and classes easier to find and join. We all know the CrossFit craze that is continuing to dominate the group exercise scene. But it’s important to understand that this isn’t the only option. For most actually, it’s the wrong option, especially for people who want to get started. The decision of what classes to join or communities to engage with should be based on your personal needs, not the latest fad.

Many people find themselves stuck between going to their local gym and working out on their own or joining a massive movement that isn’t right for them. Before the internet and social media, they didn’t know any other options. Technology is thankfully bridging this gap. Many local gyms are beginning to offer virtual training sessions with a trainer or virtual classes. If you are intimidated by the gym but still want to experience a sense of community, Virtual Gyms like Les Mills or virtual personal trainers like Aaptiv are a great solution. Technology is allowing us to find other people at our skill level and form communities based on our health needs rather than what’s popular at the time.

We also can’t discount the impact of social media on the fitness industry. The ability to share photos, videos or text updates is becoming more and more popular. Online challenges on Facebook or Instagram help keep participants accountable and motivated. The community you belong to doesn’t necessarily have to be the those you are physically working out with. Instead, it can be those to whom you are “reporting back.” If we feel like others are counting on us, or at least expecting us, to perform at a certain level, we are much more likely to gut through a workout and achieve our fitness goals.

Personalized Diets

The other area technology is shaping the way we work out in the abundance of dietary information that is available now. The internet and social media have given everyone access to more health information than ever thought possible.

Because of this, we no longer think in absolutes when it comes to our diets. The flood of information about what works and what doesn’t have finally led most people to the conclusion that your diet needs to be specific to you and you alone. There are of course dietary rules like more calories consumed than burned will cause weight gain, but there is a much more nuanced understanding of what a proper diet should be. A proper diet is one that allows an individual to accomplish their fitness goals. It’s that simple.

What works for some people concerning their goals, body type or schedule might not work for the next person. The Ketogenic diet is an excellent example of something that can work for a lot of people, but, if your schedule or dietary needs don’t allow for 16-18 hours of fasting, that’s okay! You’ll be able to find information on other options and individuals for whom it’s worked. If there is anything we’ve learned from all the studies, experiments and genetic testing that’s been done, it’s that your fitness goals need to be tailored to your body correctly.

“Fitness” has never been more accessible and community-driven than it is today. It’s also never been as customizable. As technology continues to advance, we’ll find more and more ways to find people who share our specific needs and hopefully achieve our fitness goals together!

Loose Fit

Loose fit men's jeans (Wide Leg)

Loose fit jeans are the roomiest of all jeans, with a fuller leg. It provides plenty of space in the legs, thighs, and butt. This is great for men with an inverted triangle body shape as it adds some heft to the lower part of your body. The leg should be roomy, but not flapping in the wind.

Loose jeans with a wide leg offer a comfortable option, so your jeans don’t stretch across your groin. The key to wearing loose fit jeans is to get the right fit. Make sure that your pants hit near your waist, not your hips. Otherwise, you may end up looking like a 90s boy band. With that much extra material already on show, the last thing you want is to pair it with a baggy top. Not only will it make you look lousy, it may also make you appear bigger. This is especially true for men who are on the bigger side.

These type of jeans have a very casual fit, so it looks great when paired with a shirt. Make sure, though, that you choose a shirt with a  plain, solid color. If print is your thing, opt for those with minimal print. Large prints or patterns will bring the attention to your torso and throw your body out of proportions.

Relaxed (Classic Fit)

Relaxed (Classic Fit)

Relaxed men’s jeans have a loose fit from the waist to the leg opening. The classic fit jeans work well for almost every body type, but this is especially beneficial for men with a triangular body shape. These men are larger around the waist and hips in relation to the top part of their bodies. Often, they have a hard time finding clothes that make their body appear proportional. Straight-legged jeans are ideal for this body type because they do not hug any part of your body. Plus, it helps create balance and the illusion of shape. It will take away the attention from the larger waist.

The classic fit is also ideal for muscular men. They have a fairly large leg opening, which is beneficial for them since they usually have bigger legs. Plus, it makes it easier for them to move around.

Regular (Straight Leg)

Regular fit men's jeans (Straight Leg)

Straight leg jeans maintain an equal width from the hips to the hem. It is ideal for stocky men with a muscular body. These are the men who frequent the squat rack at the jeans. Often, they have a hard time finding well-fitting pants because of the size of their hams, calves, and quads. In this case, you may want to turn to straight legs. They are not too tight and not too loose. They are roomy enough without looking baggy, yet fit enough to accentuate your toned body.

Contrary to what most people think, slim or skinny jeans are not recommended for muscular men as it will make them look heavier. Regular fit trousers, on the other hand, will accentuate your toned body without being body-hugging. It will emphasize the best aspects of your build. Remember, well-fitting doesn’t always mean tight-fitting.

Slim Fit Men’s Jeans

Slim fit jeans

Slim fitting denim are a bit tight-fitting, but not as body-hugging as skinny jeans. For those who prefer slim fit jeans, opt for those that have a slight amount of elasticity to them.

This type of men’s jeans is also ideal for slender men – those with small shoulders, flat chest, and light build. Avoid wearing a tight-fitting shirt as it will only make you look thinner. Pair slim fit jeans with an oversized shirt instead to balance out your fit and ensure that your shape is not overly exaggerated.

Slim fit jeans are also ideal for the average American build – those who have defined muscles but are not overly athletic. These are the men who hit the gym occasionally but aren’t bulking up. Since their upper and lower body is fairly proportional, wearing pants that are bit tight won’t mess up their visual proportions.

Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans

The skinny fit is the latest addition to the men’s jeans family. This is the tightest and snuggest of the jean style.

Generally, skinny jeans are divided into two categories: standard and spray-on. Since we have already discussed slim fit earlier, we’ll focus on spray-on skinny jeans. Spray-on styles have a very narrow ankle opening and are tapered close to the leg all the way down. Often, they contain a high proportion of stretch elastane, which gives them an element of comfort and ease when wearing them. Because skinny jeans tend to be figure-hugging, they are best reserved for men with well-maintained and well-proportioned bodies. They are great for showing off your figure, making them a great choice for athletic men.

Although people often say that you can’t go wrong with denim, there are a few common mistakes men make when styling skinny jeans. The biggest sin is wearing one that doesn’t fit you well. Never wear skinny jeans that are too tight around the waist as it can lead to a potential muffin top situation. It won’t create the kind of silhouette that’s most attractive for men.

The world of fancy home brewed beers has never seemed more appealing. If home brewing was a tradition pretty much abandoned when the beer industry took over, people are starting to appreciate the unique, individual flavors of home-brewed beers once more.

Not just a hipster trend, brewing your beers at home can be not just tastier, but also healthier than buying a pre-fabricated alternative. Unless you drink commercial home brewed beer every time (like the one sold by Belgian monks), which we doubt it, you should definitely consider home beer brewing. It’s easier than you think.

Home Brewing 101

How to Prepare for the Home Brewing Experience

First of all, don’t be scared of the process; people usually don’t even consider home beer brewing because they dismiss it as messy and complicated. With a good guide (as we strive to be), you’ll see that it doesn’t have to be so, and obtaining your own beer can actually be quite simple.

In 5 easy steps, the beer will be brewing away in some barrels or bottles (no need for fancy equipment), and you’ll be ready to enjoy it in no time.

The first thing you need for home beer brewing is some patience and calm. Then, with minimal equipment and supplies, we’ll show you exactly how it’s done.

What You’ll Need

Craft beer ingredients

Since this post is meant for beginners, we’ll recommend some starter kits first of all. You can go for the basic version or you can go for the fancier super-cool version. You can do without such starter kits, so they’re not absolutely mandatory, but it will be slightly easier to craft beer with them, not to mention that the bottles will look better (and you can re-use them for as long as you’d like, or gift them to your buddies and so on).

Besides the starter kit suggestion, this is what you will need for home beer brewing. This time, we really mean it (you wouldn’t be able to brew any home beer without these):

  • Malted barley
  • Hops(for seasoning)
  • Baker’s yeast or brewer’s yeast (specialists tend to argue on which is better, we obviously recommend the brewer’s yeast)
  • A little bit of sugar (or malt syrup, for a stronger flavor)
  • Clean water
  • Bottles with tight caps (to prevent oxygen from entering and disturbing the fermentation process).

The natural ingredients above can be found in most health food shops and brew shops, but if you buy them online from specialized brewing suppliers it tends to be safer. You can find the products of such suppliers on major shopping hubs like Amazon (see the links above for examples).

How to Do Home Beer Brewing

Now that you’re prepared, you can actually get to brewing. The basic, straight-forward process can be summed up in 5 steps. Here are the fundamental steps to home beer brewing:

  1. Soak the malted barley in hot water overnight, to release the malt sugars.
  2. Boil the malted water with added hops for seasoning.
  3. Cool the solution and add yeast to initiate fermentation.
  4. Allow the beer to ferment in a tightly closed recipient, releasing carbon dioxide and breaking down the malt sugars. This takes about 2 weeks.
  5. After the fermentation is complete, store the beer in tightly closed bottles, with a little extra added sugar (for keeping the carbonization strong for when the beer will be enjoyed). It’s ready to be consumed in another 2 weeks.

Once you master basic brews with these 5 steps, you should try to improvise a bit and see how the flavors you obtain evolve. Don’t be afraid to experiment, this is how great beers are born. Also, if you have doubts or would like to study the matter more in-depth, you can always consult and trustworthy manual on home beer brewing, to look up possible variations, learn about the advantages of using extra pieces of equipment and so on. Have fun and enjoy your brews!

Just because Mark Zuckerberg can get away with wearing a t-shirt and jeans, doesn’t mean you can too. You still ought to dress up.

Masculine, sophisticated and versatile, a blazer is a staple in men’s wardrobe. Although it is intended for smart occasions, it also works well with casual pieces like a t-shirt. To pull off this look, make sure that you get the fitting right. The blazer, along with the v-neck shrit, should be well-fitted. The t-shirt should be loose enough that you’re comfortable but not form-fitting. Also, we suggest that you stick with solid, neutral colored t-shirts. In this case, navy, gray, black, and white are your colors of choice. Bright-colored t-shirts should be reserved for casual occasions.

While donning a blazer over a V-neck shirt is acceptable, make sure that you pair those with tailored pants to keep you from looking too casual. You want to tip the balance in the direction of smart.

Sport jacket is looser and more unstructured than typical jackets and suits.  It is versatile and can be paired with almost anything – be it athletic shirts, polos, and dress shirts. It is a handsome, respectable garment that works well on almost every social situation.

While wearing a blazer over a t-shirt can be quite difficult to pull off, doing it with a sport coat is somewhat easier. Keep things stylish by pairing it with a pair of chinos and loafers. For maximum versatility, you’ll want chinos in classic colors. Beige, khaki, navy, and black are your best options.  If you want to smarten up your look, opt for a plain shirt and dark colored trousers.

Chinos are a good alternative. But if you want to hold yourself to a higher standard, we suggest pairing your dress shirt with slacks.

A simple white Oxford dress shirt is ideal for officewear. Keep the button undone for a relaxed, comfortable look. You have the option to wear a jacket and tie. But it’s not advisable to wear a tie without a blazer.

You can leave both the tie and jacket at home, provided that you don’t have an important meeting for the day. Maybe keep a blazer handy and a tie kept in your desk drawer, just in case.

Bright-colored sweaters can add a pop of color to your outfit. It draws attention to the wearer and can add interest to an otherwise boring outfit. Steer clear from bold patterns as they make smart pieces look more casual.

You may want to balance out the casualness of your top by pairing it with a pair of dress pants rather than chinos. Opt for more conservative colors like camel, gray, and navy. Also, make sure your pants fit well and don’t crease too much around the ankles.

Be the guy that gets business casual right

When you go to work, you are expected to dress up to a certain standard. For decades, a suit has been the standard when it comes to dressing up for a job. Now, things have changed. Business casual is the norm in most offices. It’s the fusion of formalwear and comfortable attire.

A lot of people are confused about this dress code. Please remember that business casual is a dress down from the suit, not dressing up from a casual outfit. You should appear groomed and neat, yet relaxed at the same time.

You need to prioritize fit in order to nail this look. Remember, it is incredibly easy to ruin your outfit with a baggy shirt or pants. You also need to consider your age. The older you are, the more formal your outfit should be.

  2. Once you’re in position, take a deep breath and press the dumbbells to lockout at the top. Hold for a few seconds and then begin coming down slowly.

  5. After touching your torso with the bar, extend the elbows to return the bar to the starting position.

Standing Military Press

Standing Military Press

This old-school exercise has been around since the advent of barbells. The military press will whip your upper body into shape in a hurry.

If you want to build a muscular, strong upper body and push your shoulders to their limits, then you want to do the military press.

  1. Start by placing a barbell that is about chest high on a squat rack. Once you have selected the weights, grab the barbell using pronated grip. Make sure to grip the bar wider than shoulder width apart from each other.
  2. Slightly bend the knees and place the barbell on your collar bone. Lift the barbell up keeping it lying on your chest. Take a step back and position your feet shoulder width apart from each other.
  3. Once you pick up the barbell with the correct grip length, lift the bar up over your head by locking your arms. Hold at about shoulder level and slightly in front of your head. This is your starting position.
  4. Lower the bar down to the collarbone slowly as you inhale.
  5. Lift the bar back up to the starting position as you exhale.
  6. Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.

Tip: Never go straight into heavy overhead presses. The ball and socket joint of the shoulder and the muscles that surround it are easy to injure. This is one of the quickest ways to do that.
